M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story is a 2016 Indian Hindi-language biographical sports drama film directed and co-written by Neeraj Pandey. It is based on the life of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the Indian national cricket team’s former Test, ODI, and T20I captain.
MS Dhoni is played by the late Sushant Singh Rajput, Disha Patani, Kiara Advani, and Anupam Kher. Through a series of occurrences, the film tells the story of Dhoni’s life from his earliest years. Arun Pandey, Dhoni’s manager, came up with the idea for the biopic following an incident at an airport following the Cricket World Cup Final in 2011.

Dhoni gave his approval two years later, and development began. Later, Neeraj Pandey received an offer to direct the movie while he was working on Baby. Pandey brought in a number of people to conduct research into Dhoni’s past and life events. Dhoni eventually became a consultant on the film.
The movie was released by Fox Star Studios on September 30, 2016, and it was seen in 61 countries, the most for a Bollywood movie ever. In addition to being released in Hindi language, it was also dubbed in Tamil, Telugu, and Marathi languages, although the Marathi release was later cancelled due to opposition. T
he movie was a critical and commercial success when it came out. It is the fifth highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2016 and sixth highest grossing Indian film of 2016 worldwide ₹215.48 crore (US$25 million).
Plot
There is a scene from the 2011 Cricket World Cup Final in the pre-credits sequence. India captain MS Dhoni takes the field after Virat Kohli gets a wicket. The movie begins on July 7, 1981, in Ranchi. Paan Singh Dhoni is unsure whether he is pregnant at the hospital’s maternity unit.
Later, he gives his newborn son the name Mahendra “Mahi” Singh Dhoni. Pump operator Paan Singh waters the practice field. Fourteen years later, a cricket coach spots Mahi while he is goalkeeping a football game. He impresses him enough to invite him to try out as a wicketkeeper for the school cricket team.
Mahi becomes a regular member of the team and improves his batting. A mature Mahi contributes to the victory of an inter-school cricket match three years later. Mahi is selected for the Ranji Trophy after achieving great fame, but his draft notice is delayed, causing him to arrive late in Kolkata despite the assistance of his friends.
However, Mahi persists and accepts a position as a ticket collector at Kharagpur Station in order to please his father. Jayanti, Mahi’s sister, marries his friend Gautam Gupta years later. After some time, Mahi is depressed with his job. Mahi decides to play cricket alongside his work at the insistence of his manager, and he goes to practice cricket after his day shifts. He wins various tournaments, and as a result, he is chosen for the Railways.
After a good performance, he tries-out for the India national under-19 cricket team selections. Yuvraj Singh scores 301 in Bihar’s loss to Punjab, and Mahi does not succeed despite being selected for the Duleep Trophy. Mahi leaves his job and admits to his father that cricket is his only ambition and he wants to become a professional cricketer. He puts in a lot of effort, and he makes his national team debut.
A century after meeting her, he makes friends with office consultant Priyanka Jha and scores. She buys a watch for him as a Valentine’s Day gift but dies in a truck accident on her way. Mahi experiences depression once more and performs poorly at the 2007 Cricket World Cup. As captain of the national side, he wins the T-20 World Cup, and leads India to the number one ranking in Test matches.

Mahi arrives at a hotel in 2010. Sakshi Singh Rawat, a student studying catering management and working as a hotel intern, doesn’t know him and later apologizes to him. After she suggests purchasing him a Valentine’s Day present, Mahi eventually proposes marriage to her after they begin dating shortly after. He declines. They tie the knot, and Mahi starts working out for the 2011 World Cup.
He eventually adds new players to the team to help it grow. The film returns to the championship game, where Mahi relieves the tension with an important innings. India wins the final when Mahi hits a six with four runs remaining. Coaches and his friends who were watching the game shed happy tears. After the credits, the real MS Dhoni walks by the boundaries.

Yorkers, Fullies, Out swingers, In swingers it had it all!! This is my first public review and I am extremely thankful that I got an opportunity to get started with the best biopic in Indian cinema! So, I will start by discussing strengths and then a tiny section on weaknesses. Strengths: Acting : This is SSR’s best acting performance hands down throughout his career! He successfully emulated everything from MSD’s walking style to his gestures,mannerisms,speaking style and just about everything else. He looked like real MSD in the midst of all those real cricket legends on show in the movie. Music : Every single song is soothing to the ear, meaningful and melodic. A movie from 2016 having a perfect musical album really deserves a standing ovation and the highest honour. Direction and Screenplay : Some people are moaning the stretched nature of the film lasting 3 h, but for me it was perfectly fine. Not a single moment in the movie bores the viewer. Rather leaves you seeking for more at the end. So, I would say brilliant screenplay to keep the viewer glued to the screen for 3 whole hours in this day and age when Hindi films barely last 1 and a half hour. Supporting cast : Every single actor/actress puts forth a commendable performance and takes you through a whirlwind of emotions. They resonate with you and you feel a part of Mahi’s world. My favourite was Anupam Kher, Bhumika Chawla and Disha Patani. Was fantastic to see Bhumi in a classy film after Tere Naam Perfect blend of all emotions: The film successfully balances every genre it could possibly seek to include while keeping quality of the film intact. The film mixes all of comedy, romance, drama and sport in the best possible fashion. Weakness: Does not focus on the relationship between Dhoni and his teammates: MSD commanded massive respect in his dressing room. He even earned a nomination from his seniors to lead the side. Focusing more on his international career rather than his domestic career would help the cause. And also, the film could cut some part out from Duleep Trophy and stuff and show how MSD led CSK to back to back title triumphs in 2010 and 2011 just after the WC.

I personally feel after watching this movie that this movie depicts all the hardwork and sheer determination which was put by MS Dhoni to achieve the sheer position of merit and appreciation from all over India and also from all over the globe today as well. This movie also tells that in whatever present situation you may be dealing with whether it be good or bad always aim and work hard for your future dreams respectively. Sushant Singh Rajput has completely reminsced the true character of MS Dhoni and hass depicted a very cool and fantastic attitude towards the theme of the movie in every possible phase of the movie. Hats off to Sushant for his wonderful acting and hardwork put by him to make this movie succesful!! Sushant you will be really missed and if you had a chance to know how much we loved you……#RIP

When India is reeling at 114 for 3 against Sri Lanka in the cricket world cup final of 2011, a man decides to take charge of the situation. It helps that he is also the captain of the team. He silently walks past the crowd, enters the ground and creates history. The cricketer’s image of rotating the bat as if he is wielding the sword is etched in our memory. The entire film is a flashback, showing us how a middle-class boy from Ranchi, gave up his love for football, began to play cricket, worked as a TC, and eventually went on to become the Indian skipper. The lack of sponsors, financial issues, and not being selected in the side for a long time – these were just some of the struggles that MSD faced, but not once did that deter him from his goal, which was to represent India at the international level. There are two romantic tracks in quick succession, and cricket takes the backseat as Dhoni and his better half go on a holiday. The scenes in the first half, though, will strike a chord with the audience. Dhoni’s exchanges with his parents and sister, show their importance in his life, and also the role they played in his success story. It doesn’t matter if you follow cricket or not as Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s journey is inspiring, to say the least. The man comes from a humble background and defied all odds to etch his name in the history of Indian cricket.
